Strand Plait:
Equipment:
Sectioning clips
Brush
Hairbands
How to:
1. Brush through the hair to ensure it is knot free.
2. Section the hair into three, one on each side and one at the back. Clip back the front section.
3. Split the back section into five strands.
4. With the outside strand go over the next strand and weave under the third strand. Keep hold of that piece.
5. Take the other end piece that goes over the strand next to it and then under the strand in your hand. You should be left with two sections on one side and three sections on the other.
6. With the three strands, made sure they are laid flat, with the outside strand go over and under. This will leave you with three strands on the other side.
7. Go over and under in the same way until you have completed the plait and then secure with a hairband.
8. Take a side section plait as normal until you get to where the middle plait starts. Before you take the inside strand over to the middle, open up the side of the middle plait and thread it through.
9. Repeat this all the way down, threading the outside plait through the middle plait. Tie it off at the end.
10. Repeat the same process on the other side and secure.
The Waterfall Plait
Equipment:
Brush
Hairbands
1. Brush through the hair to ensure it is knot free.
2. Take a section at the front of the hair and begin the plait as normal.
3. Before taking the outer section and putting it into the middle, take the section closest to the model and pass it to them to hold, this will stop it from travelling back.
4. Now you will have to replace this third piece, by taking a section from the top and bringing it over to the middle and plait.
5. Again the strand in the middle gets passed to the model to hold.
6. Repeat this process, taking the hair from the top plaiting over and giving the middle strand to the model to hold.
7. Keep doing this process as far back as wanted and then plait it off and secure with a hairband. Let the model release the strands they were holding leaving them falling like a waterfall.
Strand Plait:
Dutch Braid:
Equipment:
Brush
Hair bands
1. Brush through the hair to ensure it is knot free.
2. Take three sections, but rather than plaiting over like a normal plait, plait each section under. Add to the plait with hair from each side as you would a french braid.
3. Plait this all the way down and secure.
I was pleased to be able to complete these styles at the end of the session as I struggle with plaiting. Although the finish of my styles could be perfected I am glad to have learned the techniques.
