Advertising / Previous Ad Campains

Advertising is incredibly important as is plays a huge part in how people view a certain brand. Designer Fashion Houses adverts are usually extravagant and sell a lifestyle instead of a certain product. Showing beautiful people, wearing beautiful clothes is a way to make customers feel they will be part of the brand itself, representing that lifestyle if they purchase from them. Something I noticed in Givenchy's clothing adverts is that they love to show groups of models together. I think this is a really effective technique, as not only does it give the opportunity to showcase more clothes at once, but there is more chance it will appeal to the consumer viewing the advert if they see a range of people wearing the clothing in their own way. His and hers dressing has also been a trend for years now, with many celebrities appearing on the red carpet in complimentary outfits. This idea is shown in throughout Givenchy's advertising, frequently showing men and women together to show how the clothes compliment each other. The phrase 'sex sells' is true in advertising, seeing beautiful couples, clearly attracted to each other is a huge selling point as it makes the consumer subconsciously associate the brand with this ideal, and that if they wear it maybe they will become part of it.

Givenchy's beauty adverts are different, usually on focusing on one model. As you can see from the examples below, the Givenchy name is written across the top in its classic bold lettering and the products advertised are shown in the bottom right hand corner. Having the product photo's edited on allows the model to be more free in her movements and positioning than if she was having to hold the product herself. The common theme between all these adverts is have one model, centred in the page with no close cropping. The torso is visible so what the model is wearing on her upper body is important. Most of their adverts are shot in studio, but some like the bottom right image has been shot on location to give a stronger feel of the collection.
